Renewal of Term Life Insurance Due To Bad Health in Houston

Reader Question:

What if my health changes during my term life insurance policy and don’t die: Is it going to be harder to get a renewal for another term?
Jaunita,

Houston

I would imagine that in your field of work that death is somewhat of a bigger reality than for those of us not in the field. Good for you for wanting to protect yourself and your family. The process is the same as it would be if you didn’t have health problems. The difference is that you will have to answer a few more questions during the application process and you will probably have to provide medical records. You will need to be very open and fully disclose everything because the insurance company will probably find out anything you are hiding. If they don’t find out then, there is a contestability period after your death and if it turns out that there was any misrepresentation by you, they will deny coverage. More than likely your rates will go up, but this is because the risk to the company has increased.

If you are terminally ill and death is imenent then it is unlikely that you will be able to get your policy renewed. A whole policy, which insures you to your death, would cover you if something like this happens.

I applaud your forethought into these matters and thank you for your question.
